Beacon Hill Reservoir is completed.
1849
Architect: William Whitwell. One of the new reservoirs built to supply “high water service” to the newly annexed towns, it is located on Derne Street. The reservoir is closed in 1880, demolished in 1884, and filled in 1889. Some of the granite blocks from the reservoir are subsequently used for the foundation of the rear addition the Massachusetts State House.
